No measurement is exact. Every measurement has some error associated with it; so, the exact value for any measured quantity is unknown. Likewise, the error is unknown, for to know the error requires us to know the exact value. We can distinguish between kinds of errors, but what we can actually quantify are uncertainties—measures of the credibility of a measurement. Therefore, this category focuses on

  1. uncertainties—how to estimate them, how to combine them, and how to report them.
  2. correlations—simple tests and how to avoid being fooled.
